Afghanistan. 19 April 2010. A powerful earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale strikes central Afghanistan, killing at least seven people and wounding more than 30. The earthquake hit the mountainous Samangan province, northwest of the capital, Kabul. Further information (BBC).
Guatemala. 19 April 2010. A magnitude 5.6 earthquake, with an epicentre some 160 km west of the capital Guatemala City and 50 km southeast of the city of Tapachula in Mexico's Chiapas State, hits western Guatemala. No immediate casualties or damage are reported. (Latin American Herald Tribune).
Papua New Guinea. 18 April 2010. An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale hits the east coast of Papua New Guinea. The earthquake was centred about 29km east of the city of Lae. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries and the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii did not issue a tsunami alert. (BBC).
Iceland. 14 April 2010. The eruption of Icelandic volcano, Eyjafjallajokull, causes the suspension of flights across much of western Europe.(BBC).
China. 14 April 2010. An earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter Scale hits China’s Qinghai province. Hundreds of people are killed and more than 10,000 people are injured and thousands are left homeless. (BBC).
